Designing a Ganthain Adventure Path: Part One

Over at a favorite site of mine, Al of Beyond the Black Gate, has been discussing the seeming lack of a OSR Flagship Module and/or Adventure Path. This of course got me thinking about Ganth and Ganth's own history when it came to long reaching story arcs and past adventures.

Ganth has been the core of my fantasy play for years and simply put, it is all I want to deal with when playing games in the fantasy genre. I can safly say that Ganth has had an Adventure path of sorts in its past, but never anything I commited to paper. So that being said, and now that I have this blog for everything Ganth, it would seem I needed to get some of my past ideas, and adventures into this medium.

Could it be that maybe just maybe I wrote up an Adventure path for Ganth a released it as a free download/pay to print kind of thing, no, at least not anytime soon. I have to much on my plate as it is, and Ganth is going through a rebirth of sorts anyway. But it won't keep me from writtning about my thoughts on an Adventure.

I know I have belittled the Railroad, but shoulda Adventure Path of sorts be a Railroad, or should it be a sandbox, I don't know as of yet. I don't like the Railroad type adventure, but in the same hand if I start to write up an adventure, FOR GANTH, wouldn't it have to be railroady?

Maybe not, Kingmaker, one of my favorite Adbenture Paths handles both types pretty well, and so does alot of the older "Adventure Paths", but can I handle that?

Time will tell, and I may make myself a liar, as I am apt to do.

Now, about some of my ideas:

The Seven Swords:

The Seven Swords are aftifacts of divine creation. When Adir the most High God of Ganth used his Scyth to cleave the creation of Ganth seven shards broke from the blade. These seven shards fell to Ganth to be later gathered by the seven Great Races of Ganth. Each Shard was then in turn crafted into swords. These Swords were used to found the might nations during Ganths Golden Age. It was later discovered that when gathered the blades became stronger, Kryss, a god of rebellion and anarchy, was able to attain four of these swords and with them kill several gods, before being imprisoned. This event ended the Golden Age, now several thousand years later during the current age of Ganth, Kryss once again is free and this time want to gather all the swords.
The Seven Swords may be something I wait and see with, its big and has set on my back burner for years. It is a bit Railroady in my mind, but at the time I first laid down the ideas for it, I had a pretty steady group and the guys would have jumped at a chance for an adventure like this.

 The Key Holder Trilogy:
The Key Holders, a a group of like minded wizards and retired adventurers that happen to support and administer to Adventurers ingeneral. A type of Adventurers Guild they hold a vast wealth of knowledge and dark secrets and do their best to protect these secrets from more devious individuals and organizations.

Really not a lot here other than some old note I have from my 2e days, it was to be a Adventure to unlock and discover a secret that could shake the foundations of what was right and what was wrong in the world. Originally it was planned to be something for Greyhawk, but I had a handful of cry baby players that "hated" Greyhawk...sad.

I have a few others I will share in Part II, until then post what you think would be kewl for Ganth!

ERIC!
