The Wormwood Strike:
Revelations 8:11

Over 200 years ago a massive meteoroid broke up entering earths atmosphere, the largest of these, later dubbed Wormwood, released lethal doses of radioactive particles into the air, killing billions and poisoning the oceans.
Wormwood was considered the worlds largest "dirty bomb", poisoning of the environment that would have lasting effects for hundreds of years. Wormwood contain high concentrations of known and unknown types of radiation. The unknown types of radiation would have far greater impact on life, over the next several centuries than the common forms of radiation released into the environment. Named Worm Rot, or the Wyrm, the strange energies change much of the life unsheilded and unprotected the earth over.
Mutants, man, plant and animal emerged to this new world, strange creatures morphed by the even stranger energies. It would be decades before the massive Ark Vaults would open, freeing humanity to this strange new world created by the Wormwood strike and its radiation.
Born from this rose mutant life, intelligent varied and sometimes improbable. Life took on some of the wildest forms, sometimes beautiful most times horrific. The world became far more deadly, far more dangerous.
But in all of this, Civilization thrived, the want for freedom, the desire to over through tyranny never left. Governments would rise, and governments would fall, During the first few decades, called the 2nd Dark Age, no one thought anything would survive, much less civilization.
But after those decades of darkness, civilization was restored, new empires were carved out of the waste and destruction, and man, mutant and other new life learned to get along. Well in most situations atleast.

The vaults opened and man untouched by the strange new energies emerged into a new world, called the New Dawn by Humanist, this emergence was not peaceful. The Vault men thought their world destroyed, that "aliens" had invaded. The Vault Men tried to re-establish the old world, but time and again they failed. No longer was skin color an issue, old prejudices had passed away, a new threat was these strange creatures, living in "their" the Vault men's world.
Wars broke out, some Vault men, learned quickly and rose to the defense of the new world, most did not. During this period the Pan-Humanist Legion was born, a empire of hate and murder. Genocide was the state policy and the PHL was determined to wipe the world "clean" once again.
The PHL founded the Republic of Man, a vast empire laid across the ruins of North America, an warring with all the World. The Americas fought a bloody war that lasted up until the Theo-Mason Truce. President Theo Lynns Parker realizing that the Republic could no longer fight on so many fronts moved to make a uneasy peace with the Americas second largest empire, the United States of the Americas, a nation built up on the remnants of the old worlds United States of America.
Mason Turner, a mutant lion, was the current Prime Minister of the U.S.As., and through very intense negotiations was able to hammer out a truce that would last several decades. The The0-Mason Truce would issue in a new war however, a cold war, of espionage, political wrangling and shadow wars.
Extremist Parties and Organizations in both governments railed against their nations politics, striving to ever escalate already strained relations. It was not until Representatives of the Newly Crowned King of the British Empire did a calm come over decades of strife.
And so for 50 years there has been peace, will it last no one can say. The World still hold many new secrets and new discoveries, life continues on and as we soon reach out to the star and join the galactic community, will war finally end here on Earth, we may never know.
